Getting started

If you have registered the domain name dindomän.se and want to use it for a website called www.dindomän.se and have an e-mail address such as dittnamn@dindomän.se, you must find a provider of web and e-mail services (which are often known as web hosting services). Such services are not offered by .SE Direkt.

In order to use a domain name for a website and e-mail addresses, for example, you must post the name servers that are to account for the domain name. Contact the provider with which you have/would like to have e-mail and web hosting services and they will give you information about what name server information you must enter for your domain name.

Add name servers in the DomainManager

When you have received information about name servers from your provider, you can add them in our DomainManager tool. The procedure for doing this is described in the help pages.

A name server is often structured as follows:

ns1.leverantörens-namn.se
ns2.leverantörens-namn.se
and so forth.

Please note that the only information that needs to be entered is the name of the name server. Add one new name server at a time and subsequently remove the old name servers. A domain name cannot have more than ten (?) name servers.

When updating your name servers, it can take some time before the update takes effect on the internet.

If there was no prior name server information, it will not take any additional time. However, in the event of an information update, the new information will come into effect once the old information becomes invalid. You must ask your web hosting service exactly how long the old information remains valid.

Step-by-step

If you want to use your domain name for a website and/or e-mail addresses, do as follows:

  1. Select a web hosting service and purchase a web package that suits your needs.
  2. Ask the web hosting services for information about what name servers your domain name should delegate to.
  3. Log into your account in the DomainManager.
  4. Add the name servers in the DomainManager – feel free to make use of the help section here.
