Protect the environment – choose e-mail billing!

.SE Direkt safeguards the environment and is now introducing the opportunity for you as a customer to make a simple decision to participate in climate offsets for carbon emissions. If you select e-mail billing, the environmentally friendly and most efficient billing method, .SE will donate SEK 2.50 to You & We, which offers carbon offsets and has various tree-planting projects.

As from November .SE Direkt is implementing a fee of SEK 15 including VAT for customers would still like to receive a paper bill. Naturally, this fee will be waived if you choose e-mail billing.

To change your billing alternative, go to the DomainManager on our website and follow the simple step-by-step-instructions on how to switch to the environmentally friendly billing method.

Your domain fees on a joint bill

To facilitate payments for customers who have several domain names, we have revised our procedures regarding collective billing. As of now, the domain names that you registered during the same month will automatically be jointly billed.

About three weeks before the bill is issued, we will send you an e-mail with information about the domain names that will be billed. If you would like to deregister any of the domains, we also offer instructions on how to proceed. For more information about this, please visit .SE Direkt’s website.

.se – the strongest brand among European top-level domains

The organization that administers the European top-level .eu domain, EURid, commissioned a study in which the top-level .se domain received the highest total score in terms of brand strength measured in three categories: awareness, relevance and preference.

.se scored nearly 100 percent in awareness, close to 90 percent in terms of relevance and 49 percent for preference, compared with 34 percent for the competing top-level .com domain. This means that all respondents know that .se exists and nearly everyone considers it relevant to use the top-level .se domain in Sweden.

You are advancing the Internet

Not all of our customers are aware that by selecting .SE Direkt as a registrar they are promoting the positive advancement of the Internet in Sweden. Proceeds from registration fees are given to .SE’s research and development project aimed at advancing the Internet at the technical and user level.

Listed below, you will find brief information about three of the projects that are being conducted partly as a result of you being a .SE Direkt customer. Please read more about all of the projects that .SE is conducting.

The Webbstjärnan contest promotes Internet skills among pupils

WebStar (Webbstjärnan), a school contest in web publishing, is one of the projects that you are helping enable as a .SE Direkt customer. The third installment recently began and all pupils in Swedish primary and upper secondary schools are welcome to participate. The aim of the contest is for teachers and pupils to become better at using the Internet at school in a beneficial manner.

During the preceding academic year, nearly 8,000 pupils participated spread over slightly more than 700 teams. This year’s WebStars were selected in May and Fiskis5an from Nacka, outside Stockholm, was named the best contribution.

The 2010 Internet Days – for everyone interested in the Internet

The Internet Days conference opens its doors for the 11th consecutive year from October 26-27 at the Folkets Hus conference center in Stockholm. Listen and be inspired by about 140 speakers over the course of more than 40 seminars.

Take the opportunity to meet up and learn, beyond the traditional industry borders. Technology and services merge with questions about policy and use, the public sector meets companies from the private sector – in attendance will be the people who design and develop the Internet in Sweden!

Already on October 25, we will offer a sneak preview with three free events. The Internet is not for everyone – this is the theme of a full day about digital participation. Are children and youths digital natives or do schools have to change course to prepare pupils for the information society? These are the questions that will be discussed at a seminar on children and youths use of the Internet and media. The third seminar will address the Internet and human rights. Read more about these events and register here.
