How to change registrar

.SE Direkt has been part of .SE (The Internet Infrastructure Foundation) since March 9, 2009, when .SE transferred to a new business model. .SE is responsible for the Internet’s Swedish top-level domain .se, which involves the operation and administration of all addresses ending in .se. In brief, the new business model means that everyone who has one or more .se domain names will be a customer of an accredited registrar as opposed to a customer of .SE as in the past. You will have chosen to become a customer of .SE Direkt prior to the transfer on March 9, or stay with this registrar since you did not sign an agreement with another registrar. In any case, you can change registrar whenever you wish. The process of how to go about changing registrar is described below.

How you request an authorization code for a domain name when you want to change to a different registrar than .SE Direkt.

  1. Go to http://domainmanager.iis.se
  2. Log on to your account. If you do not have a password, you request login information here.
  3. Click on “Domains”.
  4. Click on the domain name for which you want to request an authorization code. Note that only the registrar of the domain name is authorized to request an authorization code in the DomainManager.
  5. Click “Generate authorization code”.
  6. Click “OK” in the pop-up window.
  7. The code will now appear on the screen.
  8. Copy and save the code so that you can provide it to your new registrar. Note that any contacts (administrative, technical and/or payment contacts) will be disconnected with the domain name in conjunction with the change in registrar. If you want to nominate an administrative, technical and/or payment contact after the change, contact your new registrar.

What to do if you want to change between different registrars that are not .SE Direkt.

A registrant can change registrar at any time. Here are the steps in detail:

  1. The registrant contacts the current registrar and obtains a password (authorization code). The current registrar checks to confirm the identity of the registrant requesting the authorization code and subsequently generate a code which is provided to the registrant.
  2. The registrant contacts the new registrar and presents the authorization code, following the new registrar’s procedures for this.
  3. The change is completed and .SE Registry confirms the change to both the new and former registrar.
  4. The new registrar confirms the change to the registrant.

If you do not have log-in details for the DomainManager

You need valid log-in details (customer number and password) to log in. If you do not have any log-in details, you request login information here. An email will be sent to the emailaddress registered for the account with further information how to create your password.
