Roles of the Domain manager

What constitutes a contact for a domain name?

As the holder of a .se domain, you can use various contact people for your domain name. Contact can only be initiated on the request of the account holder. The holder shall be able produce a written agreement, certification or other form of agreement if requested. The contacts perform their tasks by logging into an independent account in the web-based Domain manager administration tool.

In addition to the holder, who is always listed, a domain name can have three types of contacts with which it is associated. Each type of contact, also known as a “role”, has its specific authority and is responsible for certain working tasks in terms the administration of the domain name.

What types of contacts are available?

1. Administrative contact. An administrative contact person has the same rights as the holder themselves, including the right to cancel the domain name or transfer it to another person. In other words, the person who appoints an administrative contact person can delegate all continuous working tasks to said contact person.

2. Billing contact. A billing contact can receive payment notices on behalf of the holder and ensure payment of the annual fee.

3. Technical contact. A technical contact person can handle the technical administration of a domain name. In practice, this means that said contact person can add and remove name servers for the domain.

Different roles for different domains

In addition to the above described tasks, all contact persons can also update their own address and e-mail information in the DomainManager.

Note that one contact person can have various roles in relation to various domain names. For example, nothing prevents a contact person who is listed as a billing contact for a one domain name from being an administrative contact for two others. A person can have several roles for the same domain name.

Instructions regarding how you as a holder can link contact people to your domain name, or remove them, is available in the help pages in the Domain manager chapter 7. You can also read the instructions in the Domain manager’s help pages if you log into your account.
